Evaluating Existing Mine Processing Infrastructure

Assess whether installed processing infrastructure matches the proposed feed, throughput, condition and utility requirements.

An existing processing plant may reduce development work, but its presence does not establish usable capacity. Evaluate whether the installed system can process the proposed feed under current conditions and what evidence supports that conclusion.

Start with the intended feed and process route

Compare the proposed material with the feed used in historical operation or testwork. Differences in hardness, size distribution, moisture, clay content or mineralogy can change handling and processing performance. Where recovery or product quality is uncertain, identify the metallurgical or process expertise needed to resolve it rather than inferring performance from equipment size.

Review the complete flowsheet

Follow receiving, crushing, screening, intermediate storage, processing and product or waste handling. Identify the limiting interfaces and the assumptions behind each stage’s capacity. A larger crusher does not increase output if downstream handling, water supply or maintenance availability remains the constraint.

Separate a visual review from functional proof

Photographs and walkovers can identify apparent condition and questions for further investigation. They cannot establish the internal condition of equipment or the safety of energizing it. Record the inspection method, inaccessible components and specialist checks required. Operating tests need a defined procedure and the operator’s safety controls.

Estimate the cost of a usable system

Include repair, replacement, installation, utilities, specialist checks, commissioning and startup consumables. State exclusions and distinguish current quotes from allowances. Compare rehabilitation with replacement where condition, obsolescence or recurring maintenance may undermine the apparent saving.

The result should explain what capacity is supported, what remains an assumption and what work is required before reliance. Connecting that assessment to the mine production plan prevents an installed plant rating from becoming an unsupported project-wide production forecast.

General technical information, not a site-specific compliance determination. Review scope, mine conditions and applicable requirements must be established for each engagement.
